CV & professional background:

Prof. Michael Bargende was born in Crailsheim in 1956. He earned his Dipl.-Ing. from the University of Stuttgart and his Dr.-Ing. from the Technical Universities of Darmstadt and Munich. From 1982 to 1998 he worked in several managing positions in the engine development departments of the Daimler-Benz AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. Since 1998 he has held the Chair of Internal Combustion Engines and, since 2011, the Chair of Automotive Powertrains at the University of Stuttgart, Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering (renamed in 2020: Institute of Automotive Engineering Stuttgart). He has been the advisor for nearly 100 Ph.D. dissertations on combustion engine and powertrain-related topics. Since 1998, Prof. Bargende has also been a member of the Board of Management of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS). Furthermore, he is an evaluator for several German research associations, such as DFG and AiF. Bargende is the author or co-author of more than 420 scientific publications publications (75 SAE Papers) on the subjects of combustion, thermodynamics, gas exchange, NVH, mechanics, modeling, simulation and control of internal combustion engines, as well as hybrid powertrains. In 2015 he was appointed Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
