Project duration: 2010 - 2013

Location: Vorarlberg, Austria

Category: Environmental Impact Assessment

Client: State Government of Vorarlberg

Description of project

To improve the traffic situation in the city of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, Austria, the construction of a tunnel was planned. This projected tunnel consists of a system of 4 tunnel sections, which are connected through a central subsurface roundabout. In the course of the project, a 110kV high-voltage line should be constructed simultaneously with the tunnel as it runs about 60% within the projected tunnel.

As part of the environmental impact study of air pollutants, the consequences of the construction phase and the operation phase on the air quality were examined. In particular, the effects of the air pollutants NO2, PM10 and PM2.5 were considered.

The calculation was supported by data of intensive air quality measurements within the project area.
